House of Archaeologists
Museum

The ‘House of Archaeologists’ museum was established on April 1, 2005, as one of the branches of the University of Wrocław Museum. Its headquarters is located in the building of the Institute of Archaeology at Koszarowa Street 3, building 28 in Wrocław.
The establishment of the museum was related to teaching needs and concern for archaeological monuments obtained during excavations conducted by the Institute of Archaeology. The monuments organized and inventoried in the museum as archaeological collections are used to conduct teaching classes in the field of museology for archaeology students.
From the very beginning of its operation, the museum has also served exhibition and popularization purposes. Thematic temporary exhibitions are usually prepared for special events organized by the Institute, such as scientific conferences. As part of the annual Lower Silesian Science Festival, interactive workshops are organized for children and teenagers, spreading knowledge about archaeology and everyday life in prehistory and the Middle Ages.
Educational activities
Every year, the University of Wrocław hosts the Lower Silesian Science Festival, which is an event promoting the institution’s scientific activities among children and young people. The Institute of Archaeology has been actively participating in the Festival since 1998, and since 2005 the event has been held in the House of Archaeologists Museum. The Festivals include thematic exhibitions on various aspects of life in prehistory and the Middle Ages, as well as interactive workshops referring to experimental archaeology and reconstruction of the past cultures. This is a very interesting form of education and popularization of archaeology combined with fun and adventure. You can learn how to make clay pots, weave on looms, make bone needles or grind grain into flour. Anyone can take part in this educational game. Festivals take place every year in September. We invite you!!!

Current Exhibition

The exhibition ‘SHATTERED POTS! Ceramics Unveiled‘ is dedicated to clay products found at archaeological sites. We present various aspects related to the shaping and use of objects, both in ancient times and today. We highlight what archaeological ceramics are and how they can be studied. At the exhibition, visitors can observe the successive stages of creating different clay objects throughout history, along with the corresponding stages of cognitive studies. We show that the raw material, which is clay, offered infinite possibilities for creating products, and consequently, human behaviors.
The exhibition was prepared by second-year archaeology students as part of the Museum Exercise classes, led by Dagmara Łaciak and Agnieszka Przybył.
