A Roman fibula from a transcontinental port on the fringes of the Empire

We are pleased to announce that a publication co-authored by Prof. Marta Osypińska has recently appeared in the prestigious journal Antiquity, entitled A Roman fibula from a transcontinental port on the fringes of the Empire. The article is devoted to an exceptional find from the port of Berenike—a Roman fibula discovered in a context dating to the first half of the 1st century AD.

The discovery is of particular importance for studies on the mobility of people and objects in the Roman world, as well as for research into the role of ports on the Red Sea coast of Egypt in long-distance trade and intercultural contacts. The paper contributes new data to the discussion on the functioning of the so-called fringes of the Roman Empire and the extent of its influence.

We warmly invite you to read the article, which is available online on the Antiquity journal website.
